(341-41) 9-64-22.

Cold-rolled sheets from zirconium alloys

Sheets are made from zirconium alloys of nuclear purity with niobium content of 2.5%. After manufacturing by cold-rolling method the sheets are annealed in vacuum, and their surface is etched. Sheets are corrosion-resistant. Sheets of zirconium alloys are used as material for casing of fuel assemblies of nuclear reactors. They can also be used for the manufacture of shells and housings for vessels of chemical reactors in the chemical industry.

Mechanical properties

Mechanical and technological properties of the sheets are given in Table 1.

Table 1

Testing temperature Mechanical properties Bending angle before generation of the first cracking

320°С 235 196 20* -

Percentage elongation at test temperature of 320оС shall be not less than 25% only for sheets with thickness of 1.4 and 1.5 mm, width of 418 mm and a length of 4180 mm.

Dimensions

Geometrical dimensions of sheets and maximum deviations are given in Table 2.

Table 2. Dimensions in mm

Nominal Max.dev. Nominal Max.dev. Nominal Max.dev.
1.5 +0.15 250 +5.0 2775 +10.0
1.5 +0.20 418 +10.0 3680 +10.0
2.0 +0.15-0.05 250 +5.0 2775 +10.0

Sheets of other sizes are made upon the agreement with the customer, but not more than 420 mm in width, 3,800 mm in length and from 0.5 mm to 5.0 mm in thickness.

Sheets are supplied with smooth, cut or planed edges.

Flatness deviation:

  • 3 mm per 1 meter length – for sheets less than 300 mm in thickness;
  • 5 mm per 1 meter length - for sheets 300 mm and more in thickness.

Camber of sheets shall be not more than 5 mm over the entire length.

Packaging and marking

Each sheet is wrapped in a crate liner paper. Sheets are stowed in wooden or metal tare (boxes, containers). Packaging of sheets prevents them from moving inside the tare, contamination, damage of the surface, and distortion of shape.

Transportation marking is performed according to GOST 14192-77 with application of manipulation signs and indication of the manufacturer, net weight, gross weight, alloy grade, number of melt (lot), and the symbolic designation of the sheets

Transportation and storage

Sheets in packed form can be transported by all types of transport. When transporting, the sheets shall be protected from mechanical damage, ingress of moisture and active chemical substances.

Sheets are stored in packed form in closed premises, which exclude mechanical damages of sheets, ingress of moisture and exposure to active chemical substances.

Storage life of sheets is 5 years from date of shipment to the consumer.
